Purpose of part
51AB Purpose of part
(1) This part provides for the making of temporary custody orders. (2) The
purpose of a temporary custody order is to authorise the action necessary to
ensure the immediate safety of a child— (a) if the chief executive has
referred a child protection matter relating to the child to the litigation
director under the Director of Child Protection Litigation Act 2016 ,
section 15 —while the chief executive works with the litigation director
under section 53A ; or (b) otherwise—while the chief executive decides the
most appropriate action to meet the child’s ongoing protection and care
needs (for example, applying for a child protection order).
