Explanatory Notes
Objectives of the legislation
The objective of the Bill is to repeal the Competition Policy Reform (Queensland) Act
1996
Reasons for the objectives
National Competition Policy theory is fundamentally flawed and especially disruptive
and destructive to country and regional Queensland.
Administrative cost to government of implementation
If the Bill is passed, there may be some cost to implement administrative changes. It
is envisaged that the government would honour commitments made under the existing
Act.
Fundamental legislative principles
The bill complies with all fundamental legislative principles.
Consultation
· Extensive consultation has been carried out with small business owners, local
government, pastoralists and various industry representatives throughout rural and
regional Queensland.
Notes on Provisions
Short Title
Clause 1 sets out the Short Title of the Bill.
Clause 2 repeals the Competition Policy Reform (Queensland) Act 1996.
