The Parliament of Queensland enacts-- 1

Clause 1. This Act may be cited as the School Uniform Act 1999. 3

Clause 2. This Act amends the Education (General Provisions) Act 1989. 5

Clause 3. Part 3, after section 26-- 7

`Dress
`26A.(1) The principal of a State school may make a dress code for the 10
school's students. 11
`(2) The dress code may include provision about the wearing of 12
uniforms by the students while they are attending or representing the 13
school. 14
`(3) Before making the dress code, the principal must undertake the 15
consultation prescribed under a regulation with the school's staff, parents 16
and students. 17
`(4) The dress code has no effect until it is approved by the chief 18
executive. 19
`(5) In deciding whether to approve a dress code, the chief executive 20
must consider the matters prescribed under a regulation.'. 21

`(ba)the making of a dress code under section 26A,1 including-- 1
(i) consultation about a proposed dress code; and 2
(ii) matters that must be considered when deciding a dress code; 3
and 4
(iii) provision in a dress code for exemptions from, or 5
modifications to, its requirements; and 6
(iv) sanctions that may be applied for contravening a dress code; 7
and 8
(v) other matters that may, or may not, be included in a dress 9
code; and 10
(vi) matters for consideration by the chief executive in deciding 11
whether to approve a dress code; and 12
(vii) publication of a dress code;'. 13
