Clause 1. This Act may be cited as the Police Powers and Responsibilities and 4
Another Act Amendment Act 2000. 5

Commencement
Clause 2.(1) Part 2 is taken to have commenced on 1 July 2000, immediately 7
after the commencement of the provisions of the Police Powers and 8
Responsibilities Act 2000 that commenced on that day. 9
(2) Part 3 commences on a day to be fixed by proclamation. 10

`375.(1) It is lawful for a police officer, and anyone helping the police 10
officer, to use reasonably necessary force when exercising or attempting to 11
exercise a power under-- 12
(a) this Act, including, for example, surveillance powers under a 13
surveillance warrant or covert search powers under a covert 14
search warrant; or 15
(b) another Act. 16

1. Forced entry may be necessary to execute a search warrant and seize items.

2. Forced entry may be needed for covert entry to a place to install a surveillance
20
device.

3. Force may be used to stop vehicles.

`173.(1) This section applies to a person who, immediately before the 10
commencement of this section, possesses a category H weapon that is 11
permanently inoperable. 12
`(2) The person may continue to possess the category H weapon without 13
a licence until whichever of the following happens first-- 14
(a) the person obtains a collector's licence for the weapon; 15
(b) the end of 3 months after the commencement of this section.'. 16
