The Parliament of Queensland enacts-- 1

Clause 1. This Act may be cited as the Dental Technicians and Dental 3
Prosthetists Amendment Act 1997. 4

Clause 2. This Act amends the Dental Technicians and Dental Prosthetists Act 6
1991. 7

Clause 3. Section 3(1)-- 9
insert-- 10
` "approved dental prosthetics course" means a course in dental 11
prosthetics declared under a regulation to be an approved dental 12
prosthetics course. 13
"approved oral pathology course" means a course in oral pathology 14
declared under a regulation to be an approved oral pathology course.'. 15

`(2) The prescribed particulars mentioned in subsection (1) are-- 19
(a) for the register of dental technicians--the prescribed particulars 20
stated in section 28(b); and 21
(b) for the register of dental prosthetists-- 22
(i) the prescribed particulars stated in section 28(b); and 23
(ii) details entered in the register under section 31A.'. 24

`31A. On application made by a registered dental prosthetist who has 5
successfully completed an approved dental prosthetics course or approved 6
oral pathology course, the board must enter details of completion of the 7
course in the register of dental prosthetists.'. 8

Clause 6. Section 34(2)-- 11

`(2) A registered dental prosthetist must not supply and fit a partial 13
artificial denture to a person, unless-- 14
(a) a dentist or medical practitioner has certified the oral health of the 15
person is satisfactory; or 16
(b) the person performing the work is a registered dental 17
prosthetist-- 18
(i) whose qualifications, entered in the register of dental 19
prosthetists under section 28, include the successful 20
completion of an approved dental prosthetics course; or 21
(ii) for whom details of the successful completion of an 22
approved dental prosthetics course or approved oral 23
pathology course are entered in the register of dental 24
prosthetists under section 31A. 25

`Regulation-making
`59.(1) The Governor in Council may make regulations under this Act. 2
`(2) A regulation may declare a course to be an approved dental 3
prosthetics course or approved oral pathology course from a date before the 4
declaration or for a stated period.'. 5
