MARINE POLLUTION ACT - SECT 7

Meaning of MARPOL

    (1)     MARPOL is the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973:

        (a)     as corrected by the proc è s-verbal of rectification dated 13 June 1978;

        (b)     as modified and added to by the 1978 Pollution Protocol relating to the Convention; and

        (c)     as affected by any amendment made under article 16 of the Convention and accepted by Australia.

    (2)     If an amendment is made under article 16 of the Convention and accepted by Australia, the amendment is of no effect for the purposes of this Act until the Minister gives notice of the amendment in the Gazette .
