Northern Territory Consolidated Acts Northern Territory Consolidated Acts(1) Where the Minister, having regard to the magnitude or threatened magnitude of an emergency and to the facilities that appear to him to be available to deal with the emergency, is satisfied that extraordinary measures are necessary or advisable for the protection of life and property, he may declare that a state of emergency exists in respect of so much of the Territory as, in his opinion, is likely to be affected by the emergency.
(2) A declaration of a state of emergency shall:
(a) come into force immediately the declaration is made; and
(b) continue in force for 2 days from the date of the declaration unless sooner revoked or a declaration of a state of disaster under section 35 relating to the area affected by the emergency has been made, whichever first occurs.
