EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
GENERAL OUTLINE
The purpose of this Bill is to allow persons aged 16 and 17 years of age to donate blood for the purpose of transfusion to another person or for use of the blood or any of its constituents for other therapeutic purposes or for medical or scientific purposes without parental consent.
NOTES ON CLAUSES
Clause 1. Short Title
This is a formal clause which provides for the citation of the Bill. The Bill when passed may be cited as the Human Tissue Transplant Amendment Act 2006.
Clause 2. Act Amended
This Act amends the Human Tissue Transplant Act.
Clause 3. Repeal And Substitution Of Section 14
Amends Section 14 to allow a person of a sound mind and at least 16 years of age to consent to removal of blood for the purpose of transfusion to another person or for the use of blood or any of its constituents for other therapeutic purposes or for medical or scientific purposes.
