to amend the Magistrates Act

E it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory of Australia, with the assent as provided by the Northern Territory

(Self-Government) Act 1978 of the Commonwealth, as follows:



1. SHORT TITLE
This Act may be cited as the Magistrates Amendment Act (No. 2) 1998.

2. tenure of office
Section 7 of the Magistrates Act is amended by omitting subsection (1) and substituting the following:

"(1) Subject to this Act, a Magistrate appointed under section 4(3) holds office for the period of 10 years commencing on the date of his or her appointment but is eligible for reappointment.".
