The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:


1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Local Government Amendment Act 2001.

2. Commencement
This Act is to be taken to have come into operation on 30 June 2001.

3. Councils and titles
Section 5 of the Local Government Act is amended –

(a) by omitting from paragraph (c) "or";

(b) by omitting from paragraph (d) "Council." and substituting "Council; or"; and

(c) by adding at the end the following:
