The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts
as follows:
Short
title
This Act may be cited as the Health Practitioners
Amendment (Nurse Practitioners) Act 2007.
Commencement
This Act commences on the date fixed by the Administrator
by Gazette notice.
Act amended
This Act amends the Health Practitioners
Act.
Amendment of section 4
(Definitions)
insert (in alphabetical order)
"registered nurse practitioner" means a health practitioner
registered in the category of registration of registered nurse
practitioner;
Amendment of section 19 (Categories
of registration and enrolment)
Section 19(1)(f)
omit, substitute
(f) in the category of health care practice of
nursing:
(i) registered nurse; and
(ii) registered nurse practitioner;
Amendment of Schedule
1
(1) Clause 5(2)(a)
omit, substitute
(a) 4 must be persons who are registered nurse
practitioners, registered nurses or enrolled nurses who hold current practising
certificates (of whom at least 2 must be registered nurses and, if practicable,
at least one must be a registered nurse practitioner) and who demonstrate an
ability to assist the Board in performing its functions; and
(2) Clause 5(2)(c), after "not"
insert
registered nurse practitioners,

Clause 2(1)(c)
omit, substitute
(c) for the Nursing and Midwifery Board – 4 members of
whom:
(i) if one or more members of the Board are nurse
practitioners – one must be a nurse practitioner and 2 must be
registered nurses; or
(ii) if no member of the Board is a nurse practitioner
– 3 must be registered nurses;
