An Act to amend the Electrical Workers and Contractors Act

The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:

Short title

This Act may be cited as the Electrical Workers and Contractors Amendment Act 2008.

Act amended

This Act amends the Electrical Workers and Contractors Act.

Amendment of section 36 (Term of licence)

Section 36(1)

omit, substitute

(1) Subject to this Act, an electrical contractor's licence remains in force for a period, not exceeding 3 years, determined by the Board.

Repeal and substitution of section 41

Section 41

repeal, substitute

41 Term of renewal

Subject to this Act, a renewal of an electrical contractor's licence continues the licence in force for a period, not exceeding 3 years, determined by the Board.

New Part 5

After section 56

insert

Part 5 Transitional matters for Electrical Workers and Contractors Amendment Act 2008

57 Electrical contractor's licence in force before commencement

An electrical contractor's licence in force immediately before the commencement of this Part continues in force until the next anniversary, after 30 June 2008, of the date the licence was first issued.

Example

A licence first issued on 2 November 2001 will remain in force until 2 November 2008.

Further amendments

The Schedule has effect.
