The Legislative Assembly of the Northern
Territory enacts as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Criminal Code
Amendment (Assaults on Public Sector Employees, Ambulance Officers and
Drivers of Commercial Passenger Vehicles) Act 2008.
This Act amends the Criminal Code.
Amendment of section 188 (Common
assault)
(1) After section 188(2)
insert
(2A) A person found guilty of an assault must be
sentenced to imprisonment for at least 2 weeks if the person
assaulted:
(a) is a public sector employee, a paid or unpaid
ambulance officer or a driver of a commercial passenger vehicle;
and
(b) is assaulted while acting in the execution of
duty.
(2) After section 188(3)
