                  An Act to amend the Criminal Code Act

The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:


1        Short title

         This Act may be cited as the Criminal Code Amendment (Assaults
         on Drivers of Commercial Passenger Vehicles) Act 2008.

2        Commencement

         This Act commences on the date fixed by the Administrator by
         Gazette notice.

3        Act amended

         This Act amends the Criminal Code Act.

4        Amendment of section 188 (Common assault)

         Section 188(2), after paragraph (f)

         insert

         (fa) is working, at the time of the assault, as the driver of a
              commercial passenger vehicle (as defined in the Commercial
              Passengers (Road) Transport Act) or in work incidental to the
              driving or operation of the vehicle;
