WATER SHARING PLAN FOR THE HUNTER REGULATED RIVER WATER SOURCE 2003 - REG 19
Domestic and stock rights
19 Domestic and stock rights
Note: Water from this water source should not be consumed without prior
treatment, which is adequate to ensure its safety.
(1) It is estimated that
at the time of commencement of Part 2 of Chapter 3 of the Act, the water
requirements of holders of domestic and stock rights will total 5,515
megalitres per year (hereafter
"ML/year") and that these will be distributed between the management zones
defined in Schedule 3 in the following way: (a) 2,592 ML/year in management
zone 1,
(b) 2,375 ML/year in management zone 2, and
(c) 548 ML/year in
management zone 3.
(2) This Plan recognises that the exercise of domestic and
stock rights may increase during the term of this Plan. Note: Increase in use
of domestic and stock rights may occur as a result of an increase in the
number of landholdings fronting this water source or as a result of an
increase in the exercise of domestic and stock rights on existing
landholdings.
(3) The water supply system shall be managed so that it would
be capable of maintaining supply to those exercising domestic and stock rights
through a repeat of the worst period of low inflows to this water source, as
represented in flow information held by the Department.
(4) To achieve
subclause (3), sufficient volumes of water must be set aside from assured
inflows into this water source and in reserves held in Glenbawn Dam and
Glennies Creek Dam water storages. Note: The Minister may issue an order under
section 328 of the Act to restrict the exercise of domestic and stock rights
from this water source to protect the environment, for reasons of public
health, or to preserve basic landholder rights.
