Meaning of “major surgery”
64 Meaning of “major surgery”
(1) In this Act,
"major surgery" means a restricted act of veterinary science that includes the
carrying out of a procedure that: (a) according to current standards of
veterinary practice, should not be undertaken without the administration of an
anaesthetic (other than a local anaesthetic) to an animal, or
(b) involves a
spinal anaesthetic.
(2) Despite subsection (1),
"major surgery" includes any act of veterinary science prescribed by the
regulations for the purposes of this section to be major surgery but does not
include any act of veterinary science prescribed by the regulations for the
purposes of this section not to be major surgery.
