25C Meaning of "investigative detention"

(1) For the purposes of this Part,
"investigative detention" is the detention of a terrorism suspect for investigation into a past or future terrorist act for the purposes of assisting in responding to or preventing the terrorist act.
(2) In this Part,
"responding" to a terrorist act includes apprehending and prosecuting the persons involved in committing the terrorist act and preventing those persons and their associates from committing further terrorist acts.
(3) A police officer who arrests a terrorism suspect for the purpose of investigative detention under this Part is not under an obligation to take the suspect before a court or an authorised officer (within the meaning of the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002 ) as soon as practicable to be dealt with according to law.
