New South Wales Consolidated Acts(cf Cth Act, s 4)
The objects of this Act are as follows:
(a) to provide for a system of safety and traffic management that is consistent with the uniform national approach envisaged by the agreements scheduled to the National Road Transport Commission Act 1991 of the Commonwealth,Note: The Agreements concerned were the Heavy Vehicle Agreement and the Light Vehicle Agreement . The Commonwealth Act referred to has been repealed and replaced by the National Transport Commission Act 2003 . That Act does not have any Agreements scheduled to it but does make provision for an Agreement “entered into in relation to [that] Act”. That Agreement is the Inter-Governmental Agreement for Regulatory and Operational Reform in Road, Rail and Intermodal Transport .
(b) to re-enact with some modifications certain other provisions of the Traffic Act 1909 (as in force immediately before its repeal by the Road Transport Legislation Amendment Act 1999 ) relating to safety and traffic management,
(c) to improve safety and efficiency of transport on roads and road related areas,
(d) to reduce the costs of the administration of road transport.
