31A Inquiries into matters relating to pipelines

(1) An inquiry into any matter relating to the design, construction, operation or maintenance of a pipeline may, and if required by the Minister shall, be conducted by the Director-General.

(2) The Director-General may, by order in writing, authorise, subject to the terms of the authorisation, and with the approval of the Minister, any person or body to examine, and report to the Director-General on, any matter in connection with an inquiry (including an inquiry that the Minister has required to be conducted).

(3) Nothing in this section shall be construed as limiting the power of the Director-General to conduct an examination in connection with an inquiry under this section and the Director-General may conduct such an examination notwithstanding that the Director-General has authorised another body or person to do so.
