Functions and duties of Council
23 Functions and duties of Council
(1) The Council has the following functions: (a) to provide advice to the
Minister and the Director-General on: (i) strategies for attaining the objects
of this Act, and
(ii) the development, implementation and review of the
policies and plans of the Service directed towards achieving those objects,
and
(iii) strategies for promoting, consistent with this Act, the
conservation of natural and cultural heritage outside the reserve system, and
(iv) the care, control and management of areas reserved under this Act and the
development, implementation, review, amendment and alteration of plans of
management for those areas, and
(v) the preservation and protection of
wildlife, and
(vi) conservation agreements and conservation areas, and
(vii)
wilderness areas and wild rivers, and
(viii) any matter referred to the
Council for advice under this Act or by the Minister or the Director-General
or that the Council considers necessary for the administration of this Act.
(b) to consult with the Director-General on the Service’s operations and on
the administration of this Act,
(c) such other functions as are conferred on
it by or under this or any other Act.
(2) Subject to section 8 (10), the
Director-General shall furnish to the Council full information in relation to
any matters arising out of the administration of this Act which the Council
may require.
