MOTOR VEHICLES (THIRD PARTY INSURANCE) ACT 1942 - SECT 7
Uninsured motor vehicle not to be driven on a public street
(1) Any person who uses or causes, permits or suffers any other person to use
an uninsured motor vehicle upon a public street shall be guilty of an offence
against this Act and shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding 5 penalty
units.
(4) It shall be a sufficient defence in any proceedings for a
contravention of subsection (1) if the defendant proves to the satisfaction of
the court that at the time the vehicle was used upon the public street the
defendant had reasonable grounds for believing and did in fact believe that
the motor vehicle was an insured motor vehicle.
