MOTOR ACCIDENTS COMPENSATION ACT 1999 - SECT 12

12 Evidence of insurance in respect of motor vehicle

(cf s 11 MAA)

(1) The RTA must not register or renew the registration of a motor vehicle or issue a trader’s plate unless:

(a) the applicant produces a certificate of insurance issued by a licensed insurer in relation to the motor vehicle or trader’s plate, or

(b) the RTA is satisfied that there is evidence, of a type approved by the Motor Accidents Authority, of the existence of a third-party policy in relation to the motor vehicle or trader’s plate.

(2) This section does not apply to a trailer.
