40 Jurisdiction
(1) The courts having jurisdiction under sections 30, 34, 36 and 37 are as
specified in this section.
(2) The Supreme Court has jurisdiction without
limitation as to value.
(3) A district court has jurisdiction where it
appears to the district court that the matter in question, so far as concerns
any minor participant in the civil act to which the proceedings relate, does
not amount to a value exceeding $750,000.
(4) The Local Court has
jurisdiction where it appears to the Local Court that the matter in question,
so far as concerns any minor participant in the civil act to which the
proceedings relate, does not amount to a value exceeding $100,000.
(5) A
district court or Local Court has jurisdiction as provided in this section
whether or not any party to the proceedings is present or resident in the
district of the court and whether or not the subject matter of the proceedings
has any connection with the district of the court.
