Functions of Fisheries Scientific Committee
(1) The Fisheries Scientific Committee has the functions conferred or imposed
on it by or under this or any other Act or law. (2) The principal functions
of the Fisheries Scientific Committee are as follows-- (a) the functions
relating to the listing of species , populations , ecological communities of
fish and marine vegetation and key threatening processes as are conferred on
it by this Act, (b) to advise the Minister on the identification of
critical habitat of endangered or critically endangered species , populations
or ecological communities, (c) to review draft joint management agreements
and the performance of parties under executed joint management agreements ,
(d) to advise the Secretary on the exercise of the Secretary 's functions under
this Part, (e) to advise the Minister and the NRC on any matter relating to
the conservation of threatened species , populations or ecological communities
that is referred to the Committee by the Minister or that the Committee
considers appropriate. (3) The Fisheries Scientific Committee may, in the
exercise of its functions , make use of consultants or obtain assistance or
advice from other persons. (4) The Fisheries Scientific Committee and the
Scientific Committee under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 are
required to consult each other on matters that affect the exercise of their
respective functions .
