Transfers to hospital
24 Transfers to hospital
(1) The Commissioner may order that an inmate be
transferred: (a) to a hospital (including a hospital that is or forms part of
a correctional centre or correctional complex), or
(b) to some other place
specified in the order,
if of the opinion that it is necessary or desirable
for the inmate to receive medical attention there.
(2) While the inmate is at
the hospital or other place, the Commissioner may direct a correctional
officer to take charge of the inmate.
(3) An inmate who is transferred to a
hospital may be discharged from the hospital on the certificate of the medical
superintendent or other person in charge of the hospital.
(4) On being
discharged from the hospital or other place, the inmate must immediately be
returned: (a) to the correctional centre from which the inmate was
transferred, or
(b) to such other correctional centre as the Commissioner may
direct.
(5) The Commissioner’s functions under this section may be
exercised in relation to a correctional centre by the general manager of the
correctional centre.
