New South Wales Consolidated Acts New South Wales Consolidated ActsThe regulations may require a particular class or description of companion animals (not otherwise required to be registered) to be registered. The owner of such an animal is guilty of an offence if it is not registered.
Maximum penalty:(a) 8 penalty units except in the case of a dangerous or restricted dog, or(b) 50 penalty units in the case of a dangerous or restricted dog.
Note: For example, the regulations could require that a companion animal be registered if it has been seized under this Act (for example, because it was found at large outside the property of its owner). The animal would then have to be registered even though it might be less than 6 months old.
