(cf Coroners Act 1980 , s 33)
(1) A coroner in coronial proceedings is not bound to observe the rules of procedure and evidence that are applicable to proceedings before a court of law.
(2) Except as otherwise provided by this Act, a witness in coronial proceedings who is a natural person cannot be compelled to answer any question or produce any document that might tend--(a) to incriminate the witness for an offence against or arising under an Australian law or a law of a foreign country, or(b) to make the witness liable to a civil penalty.
