Explanatory note

This explanatory note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament.

Overview of Bill

The object of this Bill is to amend the Standard Time Act 1987 to provide
for daylight saving to finish on the last Sunday in March in each year instead
of the first Sunday in March.

Explanatory note

Outline of provisions

Clause 1 sets out the name (also called the short title) of the proposed Act.

Clause 2 provides that the proposed Act will commence on the date of
assent.

Clause 3 makes the amendment described above. This is achieved by
amending the definition of summer time period in section 2 of the Act so
that it will read as follows (matter to be omitted is struck through, and matter
to be inserted is in square brackets):

summer time period means a period starting at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday
in October in each year and ending at 2 a.m. on the first
