RURAL ADJUSTMENT SCHEME AGREEMENT BILL 1993

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Explanatory Note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament)

The object of this Bill is to approve, ratify and confirm an Agreement between the
Commonwealth and the State of New South Wales relating to rural adjustment. The
Agreement embodies a scheme designed to assist in the process of improving the
efficiency of the Australian rural industry and its role in contributing to the structural
adjustment process.

Clause 1 specifies the short title of the proposed Act.

Clause 2 provides for the commencement of the proposed Act on the date of assent.

Clause 3 defines certain terms for the purposes of the proposed Act.

Clause 4 provides that the Agreement is approved, ratified and confirmed.

Clause 5 authorises the implementation of the Agreement.

Clause 6 validates acts done before the commencement of the proposed Act which
would have been lawful under the terms of the Agreement if the proposed Act and the
Agreement had been in force at the time at which the acts were done.

Clause 7 provides that the Authority may acquire land for the purposes of the
Agreement.

Schedule 1 contains the Agreement.
