Police Integrity Commission Amendment (Access to Documents) Bill 2001
Explanatory note
This explanatory note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament.
Overview of Bill
The object of this Bill is to amend the Police Integrity Commission Act 1996 to provide that members of the Police Service may divulge information and produce documents to the Police Integrity Commission despite any restriction in the Police Service Act 1990, the regulations under that Act or any other law.
Outline of provisions
Clause 1 sets out the name (also called the short title) of the proposed Act.
Clause 2 provides for the commencement of the proposed Act on the date of assent.
Clause 3 is a formal provision that inserts proposed section 60A into the Police Integrity Commission Act 1996. The proposed section gives effect to the object set out in the Overview above.
