Parliamentary Committees Enabling Bill 1999
Explanatory note
This explanatory note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament.
Overview of Bill
The object of this Bill is to enable certain committees to function during the next prorogation of Parliament and during the third session of the present Parliament.
Outline of provisions
Clause 1 sets out the name (also called the short title) of the proposed Act.
Clause 2 provides for the commencement of the proposed Act on the date of assent.
Clause 3 declares that the Parliamentary Committees mentioned in Schedule 1 to the proposed Act may lawfully sit during the prorogation of the present Parliament and during the third session of the present Parliament. The clause also enables the Committees in that period to do all things they might lawfully have done during the second session of the present Parliament. The clause is subject to the powers of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly.
Clause 4 provides that the Act expires on 1 May 2000 if the present Parliament is not prorogued before that date.
Schedule 1 sets out the Parliamentary Committees continued by the proposed Act.
