Explanatory note
This explanatory note relates to this Bill as introduced into Parliament.


Overview of Bill


Section 6 (1) (a) of the Liquor Act 1982 provides that the Act does not apply to
or in respect of the sale of liquor in Parliament House.

The object of this Bill is to amend the Liquor Act 1982 to remove that exemption.

Outline of provisions


Clause 1 sets out the name (also called the short title) of the proposed Act.

Clause 2 provides for the commencement of the proposed Act on the day that is
3 months after the date of assent.

Clause 3 is a formal provision that gives effect to the amendments to the Liquor
Act 1982 set out in Schedule 1.

Schedule 1 Amendments
Schedule 1 [1] omits section 6 (1) (a) of the Liquor Act 1982 to give effect to the
object of this Bill set out in the Overview above.

Schedule 1 [2] inserts proposed section 19 (1) (a1) into the Liquor Act 1982 to
enable a Governor’s licence to be issued to authorise the sale of liquor in
Parliament House.
