A Bill for
An Act to enable certain committees of the Legislative Council and Legislative
Assembly to function during the prorogation of Parliament and during the third
session of the fifty-second Parliament.
Clause 1 Parliamentary Committees Enabling Bill 1999
The Legislature of New South Wales enacts: 1
1 Name of Act 2
This Act is the Parliamentary Committees Enabling Act 1999. 3
2 Commencement 4
This Act commences on the date of assent. 5
3 Power to function for an extended period 6
(1) It is hereby declared that the Parliamentary Committees mentioned in 7
Schedule 1 may: 8
(a) lawfully sit during the period commencing on the termination 9
of the second session of the fifty-second Parliament and ending 10
on the termination of the third session of that Parliament, and 11
(b) lawfully do during that period all such things as they might 12
lawfully have done had the second session of that Parliament 13
continued throughout that period. 14
(2) Nothing in subsection (1) affects or alters any power of the Legislative 15
Council or Legislative Assembly, and it is hereby declared that the 16
operation of that subsection is subject to any such power and the 17
exercise of that power. 18
4 Expiry of Act 19
This Act expires on 1 May 2000 if the second session of the fifty- 20
second Parliament is not prorogued before that day. 21
