A Bill for
An Act to amend the Education Act 1990 to repeal the provision inserted by the
Education Amendment (Ethics) Act 2010 allowing special education in ethics as a
secular alternative to special religious education at government schools.

The Legislature of New South Wales enacts: 1

This Act is the Education Amendment (Ethics Classes Repeal) 3
Act 2011. 4
2 Commencement 5
This Act commences on the date of assent to this Act. 6
3 Amendment of Education Act 1990 No 8 7
(1) Section 33A Special education in ethics as secular alternative to 8
special religious education 9
Omit the section. 10
(2) Schedule 3 Savings, transitional and other provisions 11
Insert at the end of the Schedule with appropriate Part and clause 12
numbering: 13
Part Provision consequent on enactment of 14
Education Amendment (Ethics 15
Classes Repeal) Act 2011 16
Repeal of provision relating to special education in ethics 17
The repeal of section 33A by the Education Amendment 18
(Ethics Classes Repeal) Act 2011 does not have effect in 19
relation to the provision of ethics classes in government 20
schools until the beginning of the next school year 21
immediately following the commencement of that Act. 22
