National Residue Survey (Game Animals) Levy Act

Primary Industries Levies and Charges Collection (National Residue Survey - Game Animals) Regulations Amendment

Section 8 of the National Residue Survey (Game Animals) Levy Act 1992 (the Act) provides that the Governor-General may make regulations, prescribing matters required or permitted by the Act to be prescribed, or necessary or convenient to be prescribed for the purposes of carrying out or giving effect to the Act.

The purpose of the proposed regulations is to reduce the operative levy rate for kangaroos under the Primary Industries Levies and Charges Collection (National Residue SurveyGame Animals) Regulations retrospective to 1 July 1993.

The prescribed operative rate of levy appearing in Regulation 9 of the Primary Industries Levies and Charges Collection (National Residue Survey-Game Animals) Regulations in respect of kangaroos has been reduced from forty (40) cents per carcase to six (6) cents per carcase.

This rate of levy is effective from 1 July 1993 and takes into account the increased throughput from recent and proposed State legislation that allows for the consumption of kangaroo meat on the domestic market in Australia.
