CUSTOMS (PROHIBITED EXPORTS) REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) 1985 NO. 68 CUSTOMS (PROHIBITED EXPORTS) REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) 1985 NO. 68 - TABLE OF PROVISIONS 1. Ninth Schedule 1985 No. 68 CUSTOMS (PROHIBITED EXPORTS) REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) - REG 1 Ninth Schedule The Ninth Schedule to the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations is amended- (a) by omitting item 4A and substituting the following item: "4A Equipment (including parts and components) of the following kinds specially designed or prepared for the manufacture or assembly of the rotating components of gas centrifuges for the enrichment of uranium by the use of gaseous uranium hexafluoride, namely- (a) filament winding machines specially designed or prepared to fabricate composite rotor tubes from fibrous and filamentary materials, being machines in which the motions for positioning, wrapping and winding of fibres are co-ordinated and programmed in 3 or more axes; (b) rotor assembly equipment, including mandrels, clamps and shrink fit machines, being equipment specially designed or prepared for the assembly of rotor tube sections, baffles and end-caps; (c) rotor straightening equipment specially designed or prepared for the alignment of rotor tube sections to a common axis, including such equipment that consists of precision measuring probes linked to a computer that subsequently controls the action of components used for aligning the rotor tube sections; (d) equipment specially designed or prepared for the manufacture of rings or bellows"; (b) by omitting item 15A and substituting the following item: "15A Materials of the following kinds specially prepared for the construction of rotating components of gas centrifuges, namely- (a) maraging steel, in crude, semi-fabricated or fabricated form, whether or not finally heat-treated, that is capable of an ultimate tensile strength of not less that 2000 megapascals; (b) aluminium alloys, in tube form or forgings, that are capable of an ultimate tensile strength of not less than 460 megapascals; (c) filamentary materials suitable for use in composite structures having- (i) a specific modulus of not less than 12.3 C 10*6*, being the numerical value derived in accordance with the formula- A -- B where- A is the numerical value of Young's modulus, in relation to the material, expressed in megapascals; and B is the numerical value of the density of the material expressed in kilograms per cubic metre; and (ii) a specific ultimate tensile strength of not less than 0.3 C 10*6*, being the numerical value derived in accordance with the formula- A -- B where- A is the numerical value of the ultimate tensile strength of the material expressed in megapascals; and B is the numerical value of the density of the material expressed in kilograms per cubic metre"; (c) by omitting item 18A and substituting the following item: "18A Plants for- (a) the reprocessing of irradiated nuclear reactor fuel elements and equipment especially designed or prepared therefor, including- (i) solvent extraction equipment; (ii) chemical holding or storage vessels; (iii) plutonium nitrate to plutonium oxide conversion systems; and (iv) plutonium metal productions systems; and (b) the fabrication of nuclear reactor fuel elements"; (d) by adding at the end of paragraph 18C (2) (d) "including auxiliary equipment for use in connection with such units"; (e) by omitting from paragraph 18C (2) (k) "or aluminium" and substituting ", aluminium or aluminium alloy"; and (f) by omitting from paragraph 23 (a) "3 centimetres" and substituting "5 millimetres". - NOTES 1985 No. 68*1* CUSTOMS (PROHIBITED EXPORTS) REGULATIONS*2* (AMENDMENT) *1* Notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 17 May 1985. *2* Statutory Rules 1958 No. 5 as amended to date.
