SUPERANNUATION INDUSTRY (SUPERVISION) AMENDMENT REGULATIONS 2005 (NO. 8) (SLI NO 334 OF 2005)

- Registered on FRLII: 20 December 2005
- Department:Treasury
- Description:These Regulations add a special purpose travel visa issued for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games to the list of 'eligible temporary resident visas' and to facilitate the splitting of superannuation contributions between a member and the spouse. The inclusion of the Commonwealth Games special purpose travel visa will allow temporary residents working in Australia in connection with the Games and who later permanently leave Australia, to claim any superannuation they have accumulated. The splitting of superannuation contributions will assist families to maximise the benefits available in superannuation and provide an avenue for spouses to share in superannuation benefits. It will be of particular benefit to low income or non working spouses by allowing them to have superannuation assets under their own control and have their own income in retirement.
