Interpretation-Part III


  1. Regulation 29 of the Student Assistance Regulations is amended by
omitting from sub-regulation (1) the definition of "relevant day" and
substituting the following definition:
  " 'relevant day' means-
     (a)  in relation to a person who commences, or proposes to commence, in
an academic year an approved course-the day in the academic year on which he
commences that course; or
     (b)  in relation to a person who resumes or proposes to resume an
approved course in an academic year subsequent to the academic year referred
to in paragraph (a)-the day in the academic year on which he resumes that
course;".

  2. Regulation 34 of the Student Assistance Regulations is amended-
  (a)  by omitting from sub-paragraph (1) (h) (i) "successfully completed
before the relevant day represent one-half or less than one-half of a first"
and substituting "undertook in that year and successfully completed before the
relevant day represent one-half or less than one-half of a";
  (b)  by omitting from sub-paragraph (1) (h) (ii) "successfully completed
before the relevant day together represent one-half or less than one-half of
the first" and substituting "undertook in those 2 years of study and
successfully completed before the relevant day together represent one-half or
less than one-half of";
  (c)  by omitting from sub-paragraph (1) (h) (iii) "successfully completed in
that last year of study" and substituting "undertook in that last year of
study and successfully completed before the relevant day";
  (d)  by omitting from sub-paragraph (1) (h) (iv) "successfully completed in
those 2 years of study" and substituting "undertook in those 2 years of study
and successfully completed before the relevant day";
  (e)  by omitting from sub-paragraph (1) (h) (v) "successfully completed in
those 2 years of study" and substituting "undertook in those 2 years of study
and successfully completed before the relevant day"; and
  (f)  by omitting from sub-paragraph (1) (h) (vi) "has successfully completed
in those 2 years" and substituting "undertook in those 2 years of study and
successfully completed before the relevant day".
