TRADE UNION TRAINING AUTHORITY ACT 1975 No. 50 of 1975 - SECT 3

3. In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears-

''Australian Council'' means the Australian Council for Union Training
established by this Act;

''Authority'' means the Australian Trade Union Training Authority established
by this Act;

''College'' means the Australian Trade Union Training College established by
this Act;

''council'' means-

   (a)  the Australian Council;

   (b)  a State Council; or

   (c)  a council established by the regulations for the Australian Capital
        Territory or the Northern Territory;

''Department'' means the Department of Labor and Immigration;

''Director'' means-

   (a)  the Director of the College; or

   (b)  the Director of a Trade Union Training Centre;

''relevant council'' means-

   (a)  in relation to the Director of the College-the Australian Council;

   (b)  in relation to the Director of a Trade Union Training Centre
        established for a State-the State Council that is the governing
        authority of that Centre; and

   (c)  in relation to the Director of a Trade Union Training Centre
        established by the regulations for the Australian Capital Territory or
        the Northern Territory-the Council that is, by virtue of section 32,
        the governing authority of that Centre;

''Secretary'' means the Secretary to the Department of Labor and Immigration;

''State Council'' means a council established for a State by sub- section 9
(2);

''trade union training'' means-

   (a)  educational, technical or practical training-

        (i)    capable of advancing and developing an understanding of the
               functions and objectives of trade unions in Australian society;
               or

        (ii)   capable of advancing and developing knowledge and skills in
               fields connected with the powers and functions of trade unions
               or the powers, functions and duties of officers or officials of
               trade unions; and

   (b)  educational, technical and practical training for members of trade
        unions in any other fields approved by the Australian Council;

''Trade Union Training Centre'' means a Trade Union Training Centre
established for a State by paragraph 30 (1) (b) or a Trade Union Training
Centre established by the regulations for the Australian Capital Territory or
the Northern Territory.
