SOCIAL SECURITY ACT 1991 No. 46, 1991 - SECT 36

Major disaster
36. (1) The Minister may declare that a disaster that:

   (a)  caused a significant number of deaths, serious illnesses or serious
        injuries; or

   (b)  caused significant damage to property; is a major disaster for the
        purposes of this Act.

(2) The disaster may be one that occurs naturally or one that is caused by
humans.

(3) A declaration under this section is to be made by notice in the Gazette.
