Short title.

               SNOWY MOUNTAINS HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER ACT 1975
                                 No. 29 of 1975

An Act to amend the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Power Act 1949-1973 in
relation to the Offices of Commissioner and Associate Commissioner.

  BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, the Senate and the House of Representatives of
Australia, as follows:-
Short title and citation.
  1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Power Act
1975.*
  (2) The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Power Act 1949-1973* is in this Act
referred to as the Principal Act.
  (3) The Principal Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Snowy
Mountains Hydro-electric Power Act 1949-1975.

- SECT 2
Commencement.

  2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the
Royal Assent.*

Associate Commissioners.

  3. Section 8 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting sub-section (1) and
substituting the following sub-section:-

  ''(1) The Governor-General may appoint 1 or 2 Associate Commissioners to
assist the Commissioner.''.

Tenure of office.

  4. Section 9 of the Principal Act is amended-

  (a)  by omitting sub-section (1) and substituting the following
sub-section:- 

     ''(1) The Commissioner and each Associate Commissioner-

     (a)  shall be appointed for a period not exceeding 7 years; and

     (b)  may be appointed on a full-time basis or on a part-time basis.'';
and 

  (b)  by omitting sub-section (4) and substituting the following
sub-section:- 

     ''(4) A person who has attained the age of 65 years shall not be
appointed or re-appointed as the Commissioner, or as an Associate
Commissioner, on a full-time basis and a person shall not be appointed or
re-appointed as the Commissioner, or as an Associate Commissioner, on a
full-time basis for a period that extends beyond the date on which he will
attain the age of 65 years.''.

Vacation of office.

  5. Section 13 is amended by inserting in paragraph (a), and in paragraph
        (d), after the word ''if'', the words '', being a full-time Commissioner or a
full-time Associate Commissioner,''.

Acting Commissioner.

  6. Section 14 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section
(2) all the words after the words ''the Governor-General''.
