An Act to amend the States Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) Act 1981 and the States Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) Amendment Act 1983 and for related purposes (Assented to 25 June 1984) PART I-PRELIMINARY Short title 1. This Act may be cited as the States Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) Amendment Act 1984. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 2 Commencement 2. (1) This Act, other than Part III, shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent. (2) Part III shall be deemed to have come into operation on 21 December 1983. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 3 Principal Act PART II-AMENDMENTS OF THE STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) ACT 1981 3. The States Grants (Tertiary Education Assistance) Act 1981*1* is in this Part referred to as the Principal Act. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 4 Recurrent grants in respect of student residences and affiliated colleges 4. Section 11 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (3) (c) ''$3,480,000'' and substituting ''$3,592,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 5 Recurrent grants in respect of student residences and affiliated colleges 5. Section 20 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (3) (c) ''$1,064,000'' and substituting ''$1,094,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 6 Grants for courses of teacher education provided by non-government teachers colleges 6. Section 23 of the Principal Act is amended- (a) by omitting from sub-paragraph (2) (a) (iii) ''$1,001,000'' and substituting ''$1,029,000''; and (b) by omitting from sub-paragraph (2) (b) (iii) ''$1,476,000'' and substituting ''$1,518,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 7 Grants for equipment for non-government teachers colleges 7. Section 24 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (4) (c) ''$84,000'' and substituting ''$92,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 8 Grants for minor building projects of non-government teachers colleges 8. Section 25 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (3) (c) ''$44,000'' and substituting ''$45,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 9 Grants for community language courses 9. Section 38 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (4) (c) ''$931,000'' and substituting ''$958,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 10 Recurrent grants may be increased to assist institutions in meeting certain superannuation expenses 10. Section 38A of the Principal Act is amended- (a) by omitting from paragraph (3) (a) ''$4,400,000'' and substituting ''$2,627,000''; and (b) by omitting from paragraph (3) (b) ''$9,110,000'' and substituting ''$9,370,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 11 Recurrent grants may be increased to assist institutions to meet expenses due to increased enrolments in 1984 11. Section 38B of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) ''$10,470,000,'' and substituting ''$10,766,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 12 Variation of building grants in Schedule 7, 7A or 7B 12. Section 41 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (7) (ab) ''$173,283,000'' and substituting ''$179,246,000''. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 13 Substitution of Schedules 13. (1) Schedules 1 to 4 (inclusive) to the Principal Act are repealed and the Schedules set out in Schedule 1 to this Act are substituted. (2) Schedule 6 to the Principal Act is repealed and the Schedule set out in Schedule 2 to this Act is substituted. (3) Schedule 7B to the Principal Act is repealed and the Schedule set out in Schedule 3 to this Act is substituted. (4) Parts I, II and III of Schedule 8 to the Principal Act are repealed and the Parts set out in Schedule 4 to this Act are substituted. (5) Schedules 9 to 11 (inclusive) to the Principal Act are repealed and the Schedules set out in Schedule 5 to this Act are substituted. (6) Parts V, VI, VII and VIII of Schedule 12 to the Principal Act are repealed and the Parts set out in Schedule 6 to this Act are substituted. (7) Parts V and VI of Schedule 13 to the Principal Act are repealed and the Parts set out in Schedule 7 to this Act are substituted. (8) Schedules 14 to 16 (inclusive) to the Principal Act are repealed and the Schedules set out in Schedule 8 to this Act are substituted. STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) AMENDMENT ACT 1984 No. 50, 1984 - SECT 14 Payments made before Royal Assent 14. Payments (including advances) by way of financial assistance made to a State or to the Northern Territory under the Principal Act shall be deemed to have been made for the purposes of the Principal Act as amended by this Act.
