STATES GRANTS (TERTIARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) ACT 1984 No. 127, 1984 - SECT 20

20. (1) The Minister may, after obtaining the advice of the Commission,
approve a proposal for expenditure by a State and instrumentalities of the
State for the purpose of providing special courses at technical and further
education institutions situated in the State as a proposal deserving financial
assistance under this section in respect of the year to which this Act applies
subject to such conditions as the Minister determines.

(2) Where the Minister approves a proposal in respect of the year to which
this Act applies, the Minister shall-

   (a)  determine an amount, not exceeding the estimated expenditure in
        connection with the proposal in respect of that year, as the amount of
        the approved expenditure in relation to the proposal in respect of
        that year; and

   (b)  determine-

        (i)    that the proposal is approved as a proposal to which
               sub-section (4) applies; or

        (ii)   that the proposal is approved as a proposal to which
               sub-section (5) applies.

(3) Subject to sub-sections (4) and (5), in relation to each approved
proposal, there is payable to the State in which is situated the technical and
further education institution in respect of which the proposal was submitted,
in respect of the year in respect of which the proposal was approved, an
amount equal to the amount of the approved expenditure in relation to the
proposal in respect of that year.

(4) The aggregate of the amounts determined by the Minister to be amounts of
approved expenditure in relation to approved proposals of a State in respect
of the year to which this Act applies, being proposals approved as proposals
to which this sub-section applies, shall not exceed the amount specified in
Part I of Schedule 10 in relation to that State and to that year.

(5) The aggregate of the amounts determined by the Minister to be amounts of
approved expenditure in relation to approved proposals in respect of the year
to which this Act applies, being proposals approved as proposals to which this
sub-section applies, shall not exceed the amount specified in Part II of
Schedule 10 in relation to that year.
