This Act may be cited as the States Grants (Schools Assistance) Legislation Amendment Act 1985. STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 2 Commencement 2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent. STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 3 Principal Act 3. The States Grants (Schools Assistance) Act 1984*1* is in this Part referred to as the Principal Act. STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 4 Determination of levels of funding for eligible new arrivals 4. Section 5 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting "$902" and substituting "$918". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 5 List of systemic schools and list of approved school systems 5. Section 6 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (4) (c) "exisiting" and substituting "existing". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 6 List of non-systemic schools 6. Section 7 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-paragraph (9) (a) (ii) "systemic" and substituting "non-systemic". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 7 Limits on grants under section 22 7. Section 23 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) "$5,331,000" (wherever occurring) and substituting "$5,429,000". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 8 Grants for recurrent expenditure of non-systemic schools 8. Section 29 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-paragraph (5) (b) (i) ", in such respective proportions as the Commonwealth Education Minister determines,". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 9 Grants for recurrent expenditure in connection with general education in English as a second language provided in connection with systemic schools 9. Section 32 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-paragraph (2) (b) (iii) "Commonwealh" and substituting "Commonwealth". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 10 Grants for expenditure of systemic disadvantaged schools 10. Section 37 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (2) (b) "the approved authority, before or at the time of accepting the first payment under the section," and substituting "the Commonwealth Education Minister furnishes a certificate to the State Education Minister for that State to the effect that the approved authority". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 11 Limits on grants under sections 47 and 48 11. Section 49 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) "$1,376,000" (wherever occurring) and substituting "$1,401,000". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 12 Limits on grants under section 52 12. Section 53 of the Principal Act is amended- (a) by omitting from paragraph (a) "$5,384,000" and substituting "$5,471,000"; and (b) by omitting from paragraph (b) "$2,154,000" and substituting "$2,188,000". STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 13 Grants for recurrent expenditure in connection with multicultural education 13. Section 54 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) "1984" and substituting "1985". States Grants (Schools Assistance) Legislation Amendment Act 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 14 Repeal and substitution of Schedules to Principal Act 14. (1) Schedules 1 to 8 (inclusive) to the Principal Act are repealed and the Schedules set out in Schedule 1 to this Act are substituted. (2) Schedules 11 to 16 (inclusive) to the Principal Act are repealed and the Schedules set out in Schedule 2 to this Act are substituted. STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 15 Principal Act 15. The States Grants (Schools Assistance) Act 1983*2* is in this Part referred to as the Principal Act. STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 1985 No. 60, 1985 - SECT 16 Grants for expenditure in connection with special education at non-government schools, &c. 16. Section 34 of the Principal Act is amended by adding at the end the following sub-section: "(8) Without prejudice to the meaning of the expression 'in respect of the year 1984' in any other provision of this Act, an amount shall be taken, for the purposes of sub-sections (3) and (4), to have been applied for the purpose of meeting recurrent expenditure in respect of the year 1984 in connection with special education or to have been applied for the purpose of meeting recurrent expenditure in respect of the year 1984 in connection with prescribed special education if that amount has been applied for the purpose of meeting expenditure in respect of a program of special education, or a program of prescribed special education, as the case requires, that commenced in that year.".
