OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (COMMONWEALTH EMPLOYMENT) ACT 1991 No. 30, 1991 SECT 33

33. (1) One deputy health and safety representative may be selected for each
designated work group for which a health and safety representative has been
selected.

(2) A deputy health and safety representative is to be selected in the same
manner as a health and safety representative under section 25.

(3) Where the health and safety representative for a designated work group
ceases to be the health and safety representative or is unable (because of
absence or for any other reason) to exercise the powers of a health and safety
representative:

   (a)  the powers may be exercised by the deputy health and safety
        representative (if any) for the group; and

   (b)  this Act (other than this section) applies in relation to the deputy
        health and safety representative accordingly.
