MOTOR VEHICLE STANDARDS ACT 1989 No. 65, 1989 - SECT 29

29. (1) Subject to subsection (2), an inspector who has entered premises under
section 27 may, to the extent that it is reasonably necessary for the purpose
of finding out whether this Act, the regulations or Orders under section 7
have been complied with, require a person to answer any question put by the
inspector and to produce any books, records or documents requested by the
inspector.

(2) An inspector is not entitled to make a requirement of a person under
subsection (1) unless the inspector produces his or her identity card for
inspection by the person.
