HEALTH LEGISLATION (POWERS OF INVESTIGATION) AMENDMENT ACT 1994 No. 85 of 1994 - SECT 3

3. The objects of this Act are:

   (a)  to confer on the Health Insurance Commission powers of investigation
        to enable it to monitor compliance with, and to investigate breaches
        of, requirements relating to the medicare benefits scheme (including
        the pharmaceutical benefits scheme); and

   (b)  to include in the Health Insurance Act 1973 certain other requirements
        aimed at reducing the incidence of fraud in the medicare benefits
        scheme.
