FISHING INDUSTRY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ACT 1987 No. 174 of 1987 - SECT 3

3. The object of this Act is to make provision for the funding and
administration of fisheries research and development, with a view to:

   (a)  identifying more precisely the areas of fisheries research and
        development that are relevant to the needs of the Australian fishing
        industry;

   (b)  improving the efficiency and effectiveness of fisheries research and
        development;

   (c)  making more effective use of the resources available for fisheries
        research and development;

   (d)  making more effective use of the skills available in the community in
        general, and in the scientific community in particular, for
        fisheries research and development; and

   (e)  improving accountability for expenditure on fisheries research and
        development.
