"(6) Where, in a Senate election, a ballot-paper has, or ballot-papers have,
been marked in accordance with subsection 239 (2) by a mark having been placed
in a square printed above the name of a candidate who has lodged a statement
under section 211A, this section applies to that ballot-paper or those
ballot-papers as if:

   (a)  a reference to the candidates in a group were a reference to the
        candidate;

   (b)  a reference to the names of the candidates in a group were a reference
        to the name of the candidate; and

   (c)  a reference to a group voting ticket or group voting tickets
        registered for the purposes of the election were a reference to the
        order of preferences, or the orders of preferences, given in that
        statement, as the case may be.". Subsection 287 (1), definition of
        "registered":
Omit the definition, substitute the following definition:

" 'registered', in relation to an election, means registered, before the day
of issue of the writ for the election, under Part XI;". Subsections 294 (1),
(2) and (3):
Omit "an eligible" (wherever occurring), substitute "a". Subsection 294 (5):
