AUSTRALIAN SECURITY INTELLIGENCE ORGANIZATION ACT 1979 No. 113 of 1979 - SECT 7

7. (1) There shall be a Director-General of Security, who shall be appointed
by the Governor-General and shall hold office, subject to this Act, on such
terms and conditions as the Governor-General determines.

(2) Before a recommendation is made to the Governor-General for the
appointment of a person as Director-General, the Prime Minister shall consult
with the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives.
